Date(s) - 2015/09/26
14:00 - 16:30
Saturday 26th September 2pm @ SEMS, Thomas Hill, Waterford City (€25 payable on the day)
SEMS are pleased to offer this workshop in collaboration with Sonic Dreams Festival Waterford.
In this workshop, participants will make their own contact microphone and preamp pickup.
Contact microphones are made from piezo discs which are commonly used in guitar pick ups. These little discs are extremely sensitive to vibration and can be used as sonic microscopes, so when pressed onto objects it becomes possible to probe for hidden vibrations as sound.
Workshop participants will solder their own pre-amp circuits to modify the piezo’s signal to levels compatible with audio equipment. Each participant will keep the piezo pickup they make which can be used as a guitar pick up to electrify an acoustic guitar or as a device to explore the lesser heard sounds around us.
Great! Please reserve a space for yourself or yourself plus a friend below. Just fill in your name and email address. There is a charge of 25 EURO per person payable on the day. Places are limited – so advanced booking is recommended!
